World Cyber Games 2007 Grand Final - Day 2

imgp4844.JPG

The 2007 World Cyber Games Grand Final finished off on Sunday, October 7th and the results are in. Last year’s Grand Champion team from South Korea was dethroned and the new victor is upstart Team USA.

Our 2nd, and final, day here in Seattle for the WCG was a full work day.

Stephen and I spent the day visiting the various vendors and learning about new and upcoming products. Look for some reviews of new tech toys on this site and Futurelooks, coming soon. I also checked out some of the gamer’s and watched the various competitions. Their focus and hand-eye dexterity was scary, I’m sure my life expectancy would be an average of 2 seconds if I ever tried to face them in the gaming arena.

The official competition games were:

8 PC Games

  • Age of Empires III: The Warchiefs
  • Carom3D
  • Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
  • Counter Strike
  • FIFA 07
  • Need for Speed Carbon
  • StarCraft: Brood War
  • WarCraft III: Frozen Throne

4 XBox 360 Games

  • Dead or Alive 4
  • Gears of War
  • Project Gotham Racing 3
  • Tony Hawk’s Project 8

Day 2 also had me on a mission to acquire some free schwag, which I will be giving away in future contests. If you haven’t entered already, make sure to enter for a chance to win a Halo 3 Legendary Edition.

Okay, the booth babes were a good incentive too ;)

Actually, the only disappointing thing about the WCG in Seattle was the severe lack of spectators. The place was packed with competitors, media and vendors but ticket sales to the public were poor. Perhaps us North Americans just haven’t learned to recognize gaming as a serious and legitimate sport. I know I didn’t until I saw the teams from 74 nations compete as athletes.

The 2008 WCG Grand Finals will be held in Cologne, Germany, hopefully they will do a better job of marketing the event to the public. I heard previous WCG events in Asia, particularly Singapore, were epic events.

In that first pic, she just finished telling Leo…”tell Derrich to call me”. Well, that’s what I heard.
