UFC 80: Rapid Fire Recap

ufc-80.jpg

Oh, my head. I celebrated my birthday last night after watching UFC 80 and my body is still recovering . . . slowly. So bear with me as I just wanna get this post over with so I can go lay down for a nap ;)

I’ll have my crazy birthday photos in another post tomorrow.

UFC 80: Rapid Fire was brought to us from jolly, old England. I have to admit I don’t like when the UFC holds PPV events there because I think it’s just weird to watch UFC at noon. I’m just waking up at that time.

As it was, I merely recorded it and watched it later that night with friends before heading to my birthday party downtown.

The fights were pretty impressive as a whole. I don’t think I’ve ever said the word, “WOW!”, quite as often in such a short period of time. Out of the entire fight card only two fights went to a decision, and four of the knock outs were in the first round.

BJ “The Prodigy” Penn took out Joe “Daddy” Stevenson with a rear naked choke 4:02 into the second round. Early in the first round, Penn opened a nasty gash on Stevenson’s forehead with a glancing elbow, that looked like may have forced the fight to be stopped since the blood was just gushing everywhere. Luckily, the blood didn’t interfere with Stevenson’s eyesight enough for the ref to call the fight. Penn is only the second fighter to ever hold concurrent titles in two separate weight classes. Penn, who was supposed to fight Sean Sherk (who was suspended and stripped of his title for testing positive of steroid use), cockily stated, “Sean Sherk, you’re dead!”, in an obvious challenge to the disgraced fighter. We’ll see if they ever get to fight or if Penn will go up to fight in the next weight class.

Here are the fight card results:

Happy birthday man, and thanks for another great fight recap. I usually check online the night of the fights for results, but not much is given in terms of commentary, so I always come here for that info.

I am really looking forward to UFC 81 with Brock Lesnar – that guy is a friggin monster!

BTW, when does Rampage fight next?

*Derek/Thomas/Shawn – Thanks guys for the bday wishes. I would have liked to have written more about the other fights but I really wasn’t feeling so good ;)
In fact, I was still smelling tequila when I exhaled this morning.

*Shawn – Not exactly sure when Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will be fighting next, but him and Forrest Griffin are the coaches for season 7 of The Ultimate Fighter. So I’ll bet they’ll fight on the TUF 7 Finale.

AUGH LEO!

The tequila obviously made you forget that certain pics were supposed to stay offline!

You can see my dang bra.

Apparently the tequila still is affecting you because I’m sure you meant to comment on “My Birthday Extravaganza” post ;)
