UFC 73: Stacked (Anderson Silva & Sean Sherk Defend Titles)

Sorry for putting this out so late, but I was involved in a “Stephen Fung”-like car accident later that night that kind of threw me off from getting any work done. I’ll make a separate post about the accident when I get settled with the insurance companies. The main thing is I’m okay, but my car is in ugly shape.

Well, the evening started off great with a fantastic line-up of combatants for the appropriately named “UFC 73: Stacked”. I was looking forward to seeing the return of Tito Ortiz after he copped out of the boxing match with UFC president Dana White. A sad move in my opinion. Rashad Evans is a formidable opponent with no losses in his professional fight career. Up till now I had never seen a fight end in a draw. Disappointing as I believe both fighters were not in their best form. Expect an Otiz Vs. Evans 2 real soon!

UFC 73 featured a pair of title matches with Anderson Silva and Sean Sherk proving themselves worthy of their respective belts with clear victories.

Special mention goes to Heath Herring and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. These guys battled it out like true warriors for the three full 5 minute rounds. Although Herring almost knocked out Nogueira early in the match, he made the foolhardy mistake of backing off and letting Nogueira catch his breath. Nogueira would win by unanimous decision.

Here are the results:

Holy Crap! Hope you’re OK! The funny thing is… I saw a brand new Mustang driving down 2nd…with no front right wheel yesterday! The guy just kept driving. Must have busted off and sparks were flying everywhere! Foreshadowing? :O

Sorry to hear about the accident but at least you are okay!

I always look forward to your UFC PPV updates and was wondering where it was after this event. One of the fights that interested me was Evans vs. Ortiz. On another site I saw mention that Bonnar had been out for awhile after being caught with steroids, I had not heard of that before so that came as a surprise.

Considering Rashad Evans is on the wrestling staff at Michigan State University, and my brother goes there, I’ll say Rashad over Tito….TKO.

I was so pissed at the Evans/Ortis decision – there is no way that Evans won the last round.

Wow, I hadnt even realized that this PPV already took place. I wasnt too hyped for the event though; not many big name fighters IMO.

Still waiting for Rampage to defend his title (aka destroy someone hah)… that’s the one I want to tune in for :)

*Shawn – Actually all the exciting fights of late have been from relative newcomers to the UFC, a lot of those fighters coming from Pride are really shaking up the organization.

*Saman – I like Rampage Jackson, I was so happy to see Liddell go down :)

I think we will see Evans vs Ortiz again in the near future with an Evans win! Tito is getting too cocky.
