UFC 71 had one of the most entertaining fights on the card I’ve seen in a while. All the of the fights were high energy and full of excitement with the fighters giving their all. These are the kind of fights that justify the UFC’s current position as reigning champ of fight entertertainment. UFC 70 was pretty dismal and disappointing so naturally it was a relief to see tonight’s fights bringing back the energy. The fighters fought to win, instead of fighting to not lose, there’s a big difference.
Notable fights included Houston Alexander dominating a tough Keith Jardine for a 1st round TKO. Armenian fighter Karo Parisyan won a unanimous decision over Josh Burkman in three, grueling 5 minute rounds. And of course in the main event, Chuck “Iceman” Liddell was thawed out and beat by funny man Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who takes the coveted UFC Light Heavyweight title. Looking forward to the inevitable rematch, but I’m also looking forward to more of these talented fighters from Pride coming in and shaking up the UFC roster.

It looks like that was a pretty good card last night. So Liddell got knocked out in the first round? Did he look like he was off his game?
There was a small blurb in the sports section this morning that referenced back to the time he fell asleep during an interview and was sent home and ended up with pneumonia for a week or so. It almost seemed like the article was trying to justify the reason he lost although they didn’t mention the actual outcome of the fight.
The most shocking thing about the fight was that Chuck got knocked out in the same manner that he usually knocks others out it - I wasn’t expecting this at all….
I loved it
I liked it, but I honestly found the non-title fights more entertaining…
Yeah, it was great! Loved watching Liddell turn into a wet noodle. Jackson is such a funny guy too, they should give him his own show.
I loved the pre-fight promo clips where Jackson said: “I’m gonna whoop Chuck’s ass.” From the sound of it, he had no trouble backing that up.
I missed the live event but read online via my cell phone that Rampage knocked out Liddell. Awesome, Rampage is the man! Way to represent Memphis hah
[…] UFC’s 71 and UFC 72 have been truly exciting for the UFC franchise and TUF 5 has certainly kept up the action with the 155lb weight class. Should be interesting to see some of the great Japanese talent from Pride come over and shake up the UFC. […]
