Free booze, free food . . . add in a free ride up to and from Whistler with a bus-load of lingerie models courtesy of LG Electronics and I was sold. Actually they had me at free Went up with my Online Guru at the invitation of LG, who were spotlighting their Black Chocolate,White Chocolate cell phones (LG 8500) and introducing their brand-spanking new Chocolate Flip Phone (LG 8600). It’s a sleek number that one with a nice black piano finish! “The Chocolate phone series is the ultimate in mobile phone luxury,” said Andrew Barrett, VP of Marketing for LG Electronics Canada, “so launching the TELUS Chocolate Flip Phone in the style-savvy resort of Whistler is the perfect marriage. We’re celebrating the fusion of technology, music, action sports and fashion by bringing the Ultimate LG Experience to Canadians at a Festival renowned for its fusion of sport, music and arts to celebrate personal style.”
The LG Chocolate Temptation kicked off the first day of the 2007 Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival with flare as they incorporated lingerie/swimwear shows (designs by couture exclusive Shan from Montreal), the Chocolate Flip big air extravaganza and outdoor concerts by Canadian bands Jets Overhead and Sam Roberts. LG themes of fashion, function and fun are fused into their lines of Chocolate cellular phones and are reflected in the day’s events.
The day started out quiet and EARLY with Stephen picking me up at 7am. Had a decent eggs benny breakfast and coffee and we were off to meet the models and their entourage for the ride up to Whistler. The bus was one of those huge tour buses with a washroom so there was lots of room to spread out for the 20 some-odd people getting on. The bus picked us up at 9am. No crazy party bus here, everybody was too busy trying to catch up on some sleep, lol. Arrived in Whistler around noon and here is where Stephen and I parted ways with the models until the return trip They had to get glammed up for their teaser show scheduled for 3pm on the slope-side outdoor stage. Stephen and I headed off to the media centre to check in with our chaperones/media contacts from High Road Communications, Angela and Marina. We were assigned our Special Guest passes, which gave us almost unlimited access to the entire festival, including free lift rides. Would have been great if we had time to get some snowboarding in. Then we were encouraged to stock up on free swag, generously provided by Schick, Malibu, Coca-Cola, Biore and Old Spice. I now have enough Schick razor blades, Malibu chapstick, Rockstar energy drinks, Biore nose strips and Old Spice body wash to last a lifetime. If your birthday is coming up you know what I’m getting you as a birthday present Yahoo also provided computer work stations, Blogger Zones, with free internet access.
Stephen and I were eager to explore Whistler Village and visit some of the other vendor booths scattered around town, Sony Playstation came in full force with an 18 wheeler trailer where visitors were encouraged to play various PSP and Playstation 2 and 3 games. Being the first day of the festival, a lot of the other booths were still setting up and we were looking forward to heading up to the GLC bar & grill for our viewing of the teaser lingerie show and the afternoons live band performance. We also received an additional VIP pass that gave us special access to the LG sponsored events, which included unlimited food and drink, courtesy of the fine, fine folks at LG. Gotta love my pass photo of me showing my appreciation with a chocolate covered strawberry in one hand and a vodka/red bull in the other. I let Stephen take pictures of the teaser show as I was preoccupied stuffing my face and downing Grey Goose vodka/red bulls. I have to give the models credit though, it was cold and snowing but the models pulled through it with grace. Real troopers those models! I had a few drinks on their behalf
We spent the rest of the afternoon getting our fill of food and drink, meeting other media, LG representatives and playing around with the new LG Chocolate Flip phone. At 7pm, we made our way stage-side (gotta love VIP status) for the lingerie/swimwear fashion show. Then we ran over to the jump hill and took some photos of the Chocolate Flip Big Air Extravaganza, the prizes were some nice LG plasma tv’s and LG Chocolate phones. After the flip contest, we made our way back for the finale fashion show back at the main stage. I learned one thing throughout this experience . . . I need a new camera. My digital camera was far too slow to take all the action photos and over half of the photos I took were too blurry to be worth showing, either that or I was colder than I thought and my shivering caused all the trouble. Either way, I did my best and I’m sure Stephen has much better photos to show you of the LG Chocolate Temptation, taken on his digital SLR.
Great day overall, Stephen and I were exhausted from drinking all day, lol. We met up with the models again around 10pm to board the bus for our ride back to Vancouver. Got home around 1am and this exhausted warrior was off to sleepy land.
Many thanks to the folks at LG Electronics and High Road Communications for inviting us to Whistler for the festival, in particular our lovely hostesses, Angela and Marina, for their great hospitality. Looking forward to the next event!
