Local Number Portability (LNP) is fast approaching for Canadians. Effective March 14, 2007, LNP allows you to keep the same phone number when you change service providers within the same local area. You can even keep your landline number, if you wish to do so, and use it as your cell phone number.
This is great for me since I’ve had the same cell phone number since high school (yes, I had one of those brick cell phones) and I don’t want to lose my number that I’ve had for so long. Mind you I’ve had pretty smooth service with Rogers in the decade and a half I’ve been with them. However, after March 14th it will be a great time to re-negotiate my rates since I can threaten to leave them for another company and keep my number.
