Got the weekend off from work and wanted to spend it with my GF Tasha and her daughter Dahlia. My girlfriend has been busy working on the set of “The 4400” so I have not been able to see a lot of her with her 12-14 hour workdays.
This was also the perfect weekend with UFC 68: The Uprising on Saturday. Being the dummy that I am, I forgot my camera so I’ve got no pictures to show you all. We had the party at my buddy Jim’s downtown Penthouse condo, prepared some steaks on the grill and had plenty of libations to keep everyone happy. All the other matches were eclipsed that night by the main event, Heavyweight Champ Tim Sylvia defending his title from ex-champ Randy Couture, who is returning from retirement. Couture is definitely a crowd favorite, but the 43 year old had severe disadvantages facing the much heavier and bigger 6′8″ Silvia. Couture came out in fine form however as he dominated all five rounds of the match. Although no one could complete a submission nor were they able to knock each other out, the beatings continued to a decision, with Couture marking his return to the UFC with recapturing the UFC Heavyweight title. I’m looking forward to seeing more of this formidable yet humble fighter. Oh, and Rich Franklin beat the snot outta that retard Matt Hughes.
On Sunday, Tasha and I decided to do something relaxing and to spend some quality time with her 5 year old daughter, Dahlia. We opted to visit the Vancouver Aquarium, since I’ve always liked the aquarium and I haven’t been there in several years, it sounded like a great idea. This time I brought my camera and took LOTS of pictures to share of our marine friends.
Trying to pick Dahlia’s nose—>
I was waiting for them to hand out some caviar and crackers from these Belugas. Ironically, I got hungry and had fish and chips from the concession
<—This mother was HUGE. His face—>
<This guy was camouflaged, sleeping right in front of me. I woke him up.
Anaconda getting air—> <—the rest of him!
<—Makes my skin crawl just seeing these crawlers.
My favorite marine mammal, the dolphin. I actually first thought they were porpoises because they were so small and they had streaks instead of a monochrome flat grey. These “dogs” of the ocean were very playful. They were so fracking fast it was hard to get a good picture of the dolphins, my perseverance paid off with a few nice, clear pics.
A great time was had, especially by Dahlia, Tasha and I was pooped by the end of it. Was kind of disappointed to see no more killer whales and it was sad to see the old zoo completely empty, but they made some nice improvements to the inside of the aquarium.
We capped off a great day with a relaxing evening at my place. We ordered pizza and wings and watched “Heroes“. We hit the sack early as Tasha had a 7:30am call time and I had to take Dahlia to school at 9am.
