On The Set: More pix from the set of “Tin Man”

*Sorry folks!  I’ve had to take down the photos due to a request by the producers.  I hope to be able to repost them after the miniseries has been aired on the Sci Fi Channel.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been working as regularly on this show as I’d like. I’ve been canceled a few times now, which makes it hard to plan my days since I still need work to pay for my mortgage. I was booked to work on “Tin Man” tomorrow but was canceled in the evening, I hurriedly called my part-time job as a LPO and they graciously scheduled me last minute. When I got home my agent happily calls me to inform that “Tin Man” now needs me again, I inform her that now I am unavailable. The banks don’t play these kind of games, they want my money on time, lol!

Had to rough up Zooey Deschanel the other day, she plays DG who is the Dorothy character in this version of OZ, and I was one of the bad guards who dragged and threw her into her cell. It seems like continuity is not a real big issue for them too as I’m only sometimes Zero’s (played by Callum Keith Rennie) bodyguard.

I was chatting with Callum the other day, he plays the Cylon Leoben on tv’s Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and was surprised to find out that he has yet to be invited to any sci-fi conventions. This had me completely boggled as even I have received several informal invites to various BSG events, I’d love to go to them too but I can’t afford to take time off from work and fly down to them. I’m sure they would pay for air and accomodations for a big player like Callum. I’m thinking it’s just that word is not getting out to the convention folks that he’s ready and willing to attend these events. Hope that changes for him.

Nice pics! You guys look cool.

Now the real question is, if Callum was invited to a con would he actually GO? He doesn’t strike me as someone who would be comfortable with the panels or autograph crowds.

Callum was telling me how much he’d LOVE to go to a convention, he’d basically be taking a paid golfing vacation, lol.

I wish I’d known this about Callum back when I was running fan cons in the late ’90s, like during his Due South days.

Hmm…wonder if he’d show up if I just booked him a trip to a golf resort… :)

In case you are still curious, Callum has been confirmed to attend Wolf Galactica 3 in the UK.

I’ve been waiting for good pics of my armour from this production to show up on the web, thank you, the arms look great, even if some are on backwards :)

If you’re ever in San Diego, I would be honored to have you, and any other of your fellow cast members stop by the armour shop and hang out. It’s out in the mountains near Julian CA.

hey Eric,

Thanks for dropping by and checking out the site. Tin Man has been a great show to work on and the costumes are amazing. Nice to know that your the creator of some really fine armour!
We are continuing to film the show until July and now that the weather is so hot I know I’m going to curse you for making my metal chestplate armour, lol.
I have passed on your site to some fellow cast members and we’ll definitely hit your shop up if we’re ever in your neck of Cali. Thanks again and great work! :)

I can’t take cxredit for the breastplate, it is part of a discount line from India or Pakistan (I never thought 25 years ago when I started making armour that I’d need to worry about cheap foreign knockoffs) but the arms, elbows and shoulders are mine. I did 2 Virgina state education films on Jamestown back in 1987 when I was 23 and got hooked on armouring for films, moved out here in 1996 to work for a prop company, it did not go well, but I recovered and after 3 years of making armour for ren fairs, the SoCal jousting community, SCA et al, I engaged in a little experiment in mid 2001 that resulted in me becoming the first armoury to have an Ebay store, it was a huge success. The weird coincidence with the timing of Tin Man, was that not 4 days before I was contacted by them, I took an emergeny order for 14 of my stock items for “The Tudors” which made March sheer hell, but fun in retrospect.
