On The Set: “Flash Gordon”

No, NOT Flesh Gordon! The lovable Flash Gordon ;) I remember seeing some of the old black & white episodes when I was younger. I was called the last minute to rush to set ASAP Friday afternoon. Set just happened to be way out in Aldergrove, probably a good hour+ drive on the highway. It also happened to be a long weekend so the entire city of Vancouver were heading out of town . . . and in my way :(

Was hoping to have a nice leisurely day of training my sword routine for my Dragon Tiger Gate audition on Saturday at noon. Brought my bokken with me to set so I could get some practice in. Luckily, I was on set with my buddy Matt who also trains in Japanese sword, so we were able to work together on my routine. We also got some great exercise in because we were training in our full costumes as as Emperor Ming’s bodyguards. We were on set all day and into the night, got so fatigued started making some dumb mistakes in my routine. As you can see from the photos, it sure didn’t stop us from having a little fun, but then again we were all delirious from fatigue :)

Here’s also a behind-the-scenes video from the Dragon Tiger gate movie, starring my martial arts hero Donnie Yen. Gives you guys a sample of the fighting styles involved in the television series version I auditioned for.
