New Xbox 360 to compete with PS3

There have rumors sometime now about a new Xbox 360 to deal with the PS3 and Wii gaining marketshare in the console xbox-elite-1.jpgwars. Well Microsoft’s answer may come as soon as April, and for only $479. The black Xbox 360, dubbed the Elite, comes in the classic Xbox black (console and controllers). Hopefully the first batch won’t run into freezing problems that so many of my friends have experienced with their first-run 360’s.

The big changes are internal as it comes with a 120GB hard drive (I always found the 20GB one to be too small), a new CPU will be running this baby and, coupled with some potentially more efficient cooling, the new Xbox 360 Elite may not have the overheating issues some of the original 360’s ran into. It also comes with an HDMI connection for high definition video and audio. Expect thexbox-elite-360-2.jpg supply to be limited at launch to create some industry and consumer buzz.

With the Xbox 360’s superior line of exclusive games it will most likely retain its current position as console leader, but I think the 360 should come out with an HD-DVD player built in (or sold as an inclusive bundle) to properly compete with the PS3.

I’m still using a regular old xbox and an old 32″ sony tv but I am sure my kids will be pleading to get this new xbox when it does come out. Clearly I would have to upgrade my tv as well as you just cannot enjoy that on a 32″ tube.

Yeah, I’ve got a beautiful 50 inch widescreen tv to play my 360 on, but it only has a DVI connection. So since I can’t take advatage of the HDMI connection, and I’m not buying a new tv, I won’t be getting a new Xbox Elite either.

Still using a 32″ Sony WEGA. Other than being 378lbs, I love that TV. So clear…

I’ve got all the top end Monster Cable peripherals and an upconverting DVD player to maximize my tv picture to a 720p or 1080i resolution. It’s super clear! The 50 inch widescreen Panasonic I have maybe only weighs 80 pounds.

All you would need is an HDMI to DVI adapter clamped to the back of your TV and you’re good to go ;)

No!!! You will NOT talk me into buying an Xbox Elite, my regular 360 is just fine!

Btw, if I use the adapter it would only be good for video right? I still would have to use optical or coaxial for digital sound.

More than likely. New CPU roll-outs. I’m sure they’re going to try to keep up with home theatre technology. The 360 has a long life ahead of it still.
