Was in the area of 41st and Victoria in Vancouver today and dropped into one of my favorite value local eateries, Kent’s Kitchen. KK has been around for as long as I could remember from it’s original restaurant in Vancouver’s Chinatown (which still has a thriving business), and this newer location opened as an expansion. Kent’s revolutionized the original “best bang for your buck” Chinese meal. With combos starting at $4.25 for 2 items on steamed rice, it sounds regular. Until you see how much they pack in there. You know you’re getting a lot when you open the lid of the styrofoam container and the top of the food is molded into the shape of the inside of the lid.
The selections are HUGE, with no less than 20 items to pick from and the steamed rice can be replaced with fried rice, rice noodles, sticky rice or fried noodles. The most expensive option is still only $6.50.
I’ve been eating waaaay too much meat lately so I opted for a vegetarian fare, beancurd with mushrooms in a mushroom sauce and fried eggplant and tofu in a garlic sauce all on white, steamed rice. Delicious and filling as always. The unique thing about KK’s is that the food is always made fresh in-house, which always scares some of my non-Asian friends as they deliver a large pig’s carcass to butcher and cook, right through the front door
If you’re adventurous or just a fan of good Cantonese style Chinese food then Kent’s is the place to go to satiate your hunger for well under $10, you’ll probably have leftovers. The only thing I find is that Kent’s always gives me gas ![]()

Feels great when you’re eating it but when you’re done, you feel like you’re going to die.
Yes, but you’ll die happy. I usually prepare with some digestive enzymes just after eating.
Didn’t see you there today Ed, would have been nice to see you and shoot the shit.
I only work a day or two a week now. Working at LD sucks so I’d like to do it as little as possible. Only on hockey game days where my friends aren’t available to watch it with me.
There was a game yesterday, the Canucks vs the Blues. The store was dead.
