Hump Day Video: June 6th, 2007

As mentioned in my event coverage of the Vancouver International Game Summit (VIGS), Cryptic Studios is currently developing a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game called Marvel Universe Online. Cryptic Studios is the same group that brought us MMO favorites City of Heroes and City of Villains franchise. Details are sketchy at the moment as how the game will play out but Shayne Herrera, Art Development Director of Cryptic Studios, stated that players will be able to play as some of the actual Marvel Universe characters in a addition to creating their own. At any rate it will be interesting to see how this game develops and competes with current MMO champ World of Warcraft and also how it will affect their current subscribership with City of Heroes/Villains. Will there be conflict?

Here’s a trailer for Marvel Universe Online for all of you to enjoy. It seems like there is no shortage of popular characters to at least make the game worth a try when it comes out.

Good stuff…maybe this will be the next game I actually play. I still get the shakes every time I think of playing WoW again…maybe this will be as good.

Of course, how are they going to deal with the 135981735 people that want to be Wolverine?

That’s kinda what I’ve been wondering when I was listening to the discussion panel at VIGS. Will be interesting to see how they address the issue in-game. Sure will be boring to see a bunch of the same characters with the exact same powers running around.

looks like a cool game, although I don’t think I will be anywhere near as popular as WoW
