Hollyweird @ VCON 32

As mentioned in a previous post, I was invited to participate in a Q&A style panel called “Hollyweird” at the Vancouver Science Fiction, Fantasy and Gaming convention. The panel was yesterday at 10:30am in the Radisson President Hotel in Richmond.

I wasn’t quite comfortable in conducting a panel by myself so I asked a couple of colleagues to join in on the fun. From left to right we have Thomas “the REAL Bionic Man” Potter, Barry “Berry” Nerling and myself. We all wore DC5 hoodies, a nice plug for the agency that represents us.

We arrived at 10:30am to an empty room, save for one man. It didn’t look very good but that soon changed. The one attendee went outside and announced that our panel was about to begin and lo and behold a steady stream of people began to filter in. We filled the room comfortably :)

In the end, our panel proved to be so successful that we ran 30 minutes past our allotted time and had to cut it short at noon when the next scheduled panel arrived. We most likely would have easily talked and fielded questions for another hour.

Just before leaving, a representative from the larger SciFi Convention in Calgary asked if we would be interested in attending their event if they paid our way. Hell yeah!

Unfortunately, we missed the costume “Masquerade” on Saturday, but there were still a few people in costume running around. The Dealer’s Room was fun with a marketplace full of merchandise for sale. No Battlestar stuff though, apparently they sell-out as soon as the stores get them in.

Thanks to Stephen for taking the panel photos.

That is a pretty sweet deal that you guys were offered a paid trip to the larger conference in Calgary. Congrats on what sounds like a successful experience with this panel discussion.

Congratulations indeed, that’s awesome.

No video of the conference, though?

Thanks guys, it was really fun to be part of the panel and see so many people interested in what I do.
No video, it was pretty hard to set anything up when I’m busy one the panel. If it wasn’t for Stephen Fung I wouldn’t even have any photos.

That’s pretty cool that it turned out so well and served as a good “foot-in-the-door” opportunity for you to get to go to that larger conference. I guess you’re beginning to acheive celebrity status now and becoming famous huh?
