It seems like Youtube is not only the domain of the average kid with a camcorder anymore, now celebrities are getting in on it big time with their own brand of viral videos.

And why not? It’s free and takes on a life of its own, word of mouth advertising is the best form.

Case in point is todays Hump Day Video demonstrating the ACDC’s (Adam/Chu Dance Crew) self-proclaimed Biggest Online Dance Battle against Miley Cyrus and Mandy Jiroux (M&M Cru).

This video features a lot of celebrity cameos, most notably Adam Sandler and Lindsay Lohan, as well as some of the USA’s best dancers.

Jon M. Chu and Adam Sevani challenge Miley and Mandy to “The Biggest Online Dance Battle in YouTube history”. The rules are…there are NO rules. both crews are allowed to do whatever they want, however they want. Jon and Adam name their crew the ACDC (Adam/Chu Dance Crew). They release their first battle video.

April 15 2008
Miley and Mandy respond with a giant video to Madonna and Justin Timberlake’s song, “4 Minutes”. In 24 hours their video gets OVER A MILLION hits and become an instant YouTube classic. It gets posted on Perez, Access Hollywood, Yahoo News, Ellen etc. They even recruit one of Step Up’s own to be in their video (Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan).

Adam and Chu release a teaser for their response to the Miley and Mandy video. It sets a date and time for the release of their next installment, “April 30th 9pm PST.” Buzz grows.

There is an ONLINE frenzy on the ChuPictures youtube page where the fans have gathered for the live release of the battle video. Chu’s youtube triples it’s views in twenty minutes before the video has even been uploaded. Technical difficulties lead to the delay of the video release for 1 hour. Frenzy only gets bigger.

It’s well written and funny as hell. If you’re a sci-fi fan like myself, you’ll appreciate the time and effort put into this little project. My favorite is the Lando part

It’s been a while since I last posted a Hump Day Video, simply because I haven’t found anything worth posting

Over the years I’ve been increasingly impressed with the performance and abilities of Will Smith. From his early days as the Fresh Prince, to his transition to television with “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, to the award winning performances on the big screen, Smith does not disappoint. More impressive is his flourishing relationship with his wife, Jada Pinkett, and the raising of their son, who is a budding actor himself (Jaden Smith in “Pursuit of Happyness”).

His latest film, “I am Legend” (Release date: December 14, 2007), looks like the latest in original zombie/vampire films produced by Hollywood. I’m sure it won’t disappoint, Smith has an uncanny knack in finding great scripts.

I’ve always wondered why a lot of my fellow Asians make a big deal about picking up or hooking up with a white chick.

Admittedly, most of the women in my personal life end up being of the Caucasian persuasion, but I just think that’s because there’s more of them around me. I think the last Asian girl I dated was about six years ago. But I’m not limited to Caucasians, as I’ve dated my share of black, latina and middle eastern women. I really don’t care about the ethnicity . . . they just have to have boobs and a butt

Yes, some of the women attracted to me have “Yellow Fever” and just loooove us Asian boys but most of them don’t even consider the fact that I’m Asian since it just doesn’t really matter. Why limit yourself, I say? To each their own though, as long as your not going after someone for the sole purpose of being an arm trophy. I sure love to blast those Asian stereotypes though

Welcome to another installment of Wednesday’s Hump Day Video. Today I wanted to showcase a musical that I hope eventually makes it to this side of the world. Jihad The Musical is currently part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.

I’m surprised this musical hasn’t gotten more press than it already has considering its sensitive topics.

The Plot

JIHAD THE MUSICAL tells the story of a young Afghan peasant, Sayid. Coming from the desert, Sayid dreams of proving himself to his bossy sister Shazzia and to the world, by making it as a flower farmer. Enchanted by a mysterious veiled woman, he leaps at her offer to work for a company that ‘exports poppies’ to the West. Unfortunately, Sayid soon discovers that the woman is a terrorist, and the company a front for a jihadi cell seeking to blow up targets in the West, most particularly one known as the Unidentified, Very Prestigious Landmark.

Farce ensues as Sayid is brainwashed by the all-singing, all-dancing jihadis, vowing to fight for their cause. Meanwhile, a sinister reporter, Foxy Redstate, uncovers the plot, encouraging Sayid to keep her in the loop in the hope that such an exclusive will propel her to media stardom. Sayid finds himself caught between the terrorists on one hand and the media on the other, driven to share in their enthusiasm for the impending terrorist spectacular. Fortunately help is on the way in the form of his no-nonsense sister, who teams up with a surrender-prone Frenchman to come to the rescue. Everything comes to a head on the night of the attack, where, caught between his sister, the bloodthirsty global media, and the jihadis he has come to see as a new family, Sayid has to decide whose side he is really on.

Been really remiss at doing regular posting lately due to my heavy work schedule. Just got home from working on Psych and I’m ready to fall asleep. Couldn’t do it without at least posting today’s Hump Day Video for your viewing pleasure. I finally get a day off tomorrow so I hope to catch up on some posts. I also bought the special edition “300” DVD and the “Hot Fuzz” DVD, so expect a DVD review of the two films.

Today’s video is a “must-see” for those of you either involved in the film industry or are curious about it. It’s a hilarious look at what it’s like to live with an Assistant Director (AD). For those of you that don’t know, AD’s pretty much run the show and organize every production detail from the top down. They make sure all the departments are in line and the production is following the schedule. They are also the ones who take all the crap from the Directors and Producers when things go awry. There is usually 3-4 AD’s on a show. The 1st (who is the right hand of the Director) , the 2nd and the 3rd (who primarily deal with the crew and background) and sometimes a Training Assistant Director (TAD). A high-stress job for sure as it requires patience, great people skills and a great strength in organization.

It seems that shows from my youth are making a comeback on the big screen. First Battlestar Galactica came out with its highly acclaimed TV series, The Transformers made a big impression with a little help from Steven Spielberg, Die Hard added another installment while Bruce Willis continues to battle hair loss and now the “final” Indiana Jones movie is in production.

What next? I’d like to see a darker, more mature version of the Power Rangers on the big screen. Growing up in Taiwan there were lots of similar shows like G-Force, Thunderbirds 2086 and Galaxy Rangers (my personal favorite). Of course there are the Go-Bots, they were just a poor copy of the Transformers (I had the Cy-Kill action figure). Anybody out there remember these shows?

Todays Hump Day Video is a nice parody of the Power Rangers. It is well-written, performed and skillfully executed. These guys had a nice budget for this short film.

Tattoos. It seems like what used to symbolize a major Rite of Passage for men who have achieved something significant in their lives (i.e., warriors, military, fraternity, brotherhood, prison, etc.) has now become a fashion accessory like handbags and toy dogs. The fine tradition of tattooing has evolved into a frivolous endeavor that most people do not put forth much thought into, getting little butterflies and other meaningless scribbles.

If you’re one of those people who says, “I wanna get a tattoo, but I don’t know what of”, then you DO NOT want a tattoo. You will most likely get something stupid that you will regret later on in life. And people who have real, meaningful tattoos will laugh and talk about you behind your back

The most popular tattoo I see on women is the one placed right above the butt crack. This area has gotten more popular ever since the low-riding jeans and exposed thong look became fashion. I call it the bulls-eye. It’s the target I always aim for . . . but that’s another story

Unfortunately, the popularity of the tattoo may be linear to the recent advancements in tattoo removal. A tattoo can now be easily removed, albeit it takes several expensive and painstaking sessions. Just like divorce. Coincidence?
