As you’ve probably heard repetitively on Vancouver’s The Beat 94.5 FM or Channel M, there is a Body Painting Competition taking place on April 13th, 2007.

butterfly.jpgSo what is body painting? Nearly nude bodies transformed into living artistic masterpieces. Who doesn’t love a little nudity?
Maybe you’ve seen promo models parading around night clubs with BACARDI or CORONA across theirman.jpg racks. Artists do make a killing airbrushing logos but body painting has become so much more than just this. You may remember a famous controversial cover of Vanity Fair from the 1990’s featuring the lovely Demi Moore, at first glance, modeling a man’s suit however; if you looked close enough, you would have realized her beautiful body was NAKED! Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue featured a section of models that were body painted, attired in renditions of swimsuits or sports jerseys.

group.jpgIn the 2005 Playmates at Play calendar, the Playmates appeared in the calendar wearing bikinis, but Playmates Karen McDougal and Hiromi Oshima were actually appearing in painted on bikinis for their respective months. In October, 2005, the Playboy magazine cover featured a foldout of two models (Sara Jean Underwood and Victoria Thornton) wearing only body paint. Renowned artist, Mark Frazier, created these and other body paintings for Hugh Hefner’s famous Playboy Mansion theme parties.

geisha.jpgCarnevale 2007 is the 13th Body Painting Competition presented by Dominelli International College ofdominelli_bodypainting.jpg Esthetics. This is a fundraiser with proceeds going to the Friends of Ferrari Foundation for Children with Muscular Dystrophy. This year’s theme is the 13 Goddesses of the World (yep, no painted sausage at this competition!). Goddesses featured hail from Greek, Hindu and Egyptian mythology, to name a few.
